LED Strips dots

LED Strip lights are a popular choice for illuminating spaces and creating various lighting effects. One of the common concerns when using LED strips is seeing individual light points or dots instead of a smooth, continuous light. In this article, we will discuss the causes of this issue and how to minimize it for better lighting results.

Firstly, the phenomenon of seeing individual light points is called "mottle," which is caused by the spacing between LEDs on the strip. Typically, LED strips come with LEDs that are spaced at a standard interval, which can range from 30 to 60 LEDs per meter. The more LEDs per meter, the closer they are together, and the less likely you will see individual light points.

Secondly, the type of diffuser or cover used with the LED strip can also affect the appearance of mottle. A diffuser is a translucent material that is placed over the LED strip to diffuse and spread the light. Choosing a diffuser with a high degree of diffusion, such as a frosted or milky cover, can help to minimize the appearance of mottle.

Thirdly, the brightness of the LED strip can also impact the visibility of mottle. If the brightness is too high, it can create more contrast between the individual LEDs, making them more visible. Adjusting the brightness to a level that is appropriate for the space and purpose can help to minimize mottle.

Lastly, the viewing distance can also play a role in the appearance of mottle. When the viewer is closer to the LED strip, it is more likely to see individual light points. Increasing the viewing distance by moving the LED strip further away from the viewer or using it to light a larger space can help to reduce mottle.

In conclusion, mottle is a common issue when using LED strip lights, but it can be minimized by choosing an LED strip with a higher density of LEDs, using a diffuser with a high degree of diffusion, adjusting the brightness appropriately, and increasing the viewing distance. By taking these steps, you can achieve a smooth and continuous lighting effect with LED strip lights.
